This is Thorin. They're an embodiment of fear. They're slowly trying to find other feelings but are dominated by fear and timidness.
Not a lot of people are friends with Thorn because his fear keeps him from  interacting with others. Anything can startle them. A small noise can make him look and set him on edge. Even if they don't see anything "scary" that noise will still make him locate to another area that they deem "safe."

While noises can set him on edge, interacting  with people is a whole other story. Suddenly walking up to Thorin will  set him running for the hills. If you bump into him around the corner, he'll faint from terror. Thankfully, he's not completely hopeless with making friends. Thorin will look and approach if he thinks you  aren't looking or moving. Just think of it like getting a fearful squirrel to walk up to you to eat a tidbit from your hand. Patients and the art of a being still as a statue are key elements to get Thorin to warm up to you.

When with someone they feel comfortable, they'll hide behind or under them. It makes him feel safe. This allows Thorn to engage with other people or at least be more out and about. Thorin has the mindset that has him thinking he's a small creature even though he's a rather large fella. He's like a big dog thinking they're a lap dog. When comfortable they have no sense of  personal space and like to sit on laps and snuggle.
